Geomembranes for Hot, High-UV Projects: Thickness Is Not a Durability Specification

Middle East and tropical projects should review resin, stabilisation, carbon-black dispersion, chemical exposure, welding conditions and the cover programme.

Exposed geomembrane installation under hot-climate site conditions

High temperature and solar exposure can accelerate oxidation and make installation damage harder to control. Material durability, exposure duration, process liquid, welding window and cover protection should be reviewed as one system.

01

Specify durability evidence

Review the applicable standard’s requirements for carbon black, oxidative induction time, stress-crack resistance and retained properties. Ask for lot-linked reports, not catalogue claims.

02

Include actual service exposure

Define maximum sheet temperature, UV exposure before cover, process chemistry, liner colour, wind conditions and whether the membrane remains permanently exposed.

03

Plan welding and protection

Use daily trial seams to establish a workable welding window. Avoid dragging, uncontrolled traffic and long uncovered storage; coordinate protection and cover placement with liner release.

What the procurement or project team should do next

  • Submit climate and fluid data with the inquiry

  • Define the maximum uncovered period

  • Approve hot-weather welding controls

  • Verify protection and cover sequencing
